Steven Mackintosh Under the Spotlight

With Adrian Mole, Prime Suspect and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels behind him, Steven Macintosh has enjoyed a diverse and successful 30 year acting career. Now, the BAFTA nominated actor has embarked upon a drama with a strangely personal resonance. Recent BBC drama From There to Here depicts a family devastated by the IRA bomb attack on Manchester City Centre on Saturday 15th June 1996. In a curious twist, Mackintosh was in the city on the day of the terrorist attack in which 212 people were injured. “Bizarrely enough, I was there in Manchester when the bomb happened. I was filming Prime Suspect at the time, we were evacuated from the centre of Manchester when the warning came of the bomb. So I remember that, how frightening it was and how obviously relieved I was when nobody was killed. But seeing all the devastation and then watching the Euro 96 game (England v Scotland) in the afternoon afterwards in the hotel bar, just like Robbo and the characters do in the programme. It was bizarre and very weird to remember events so vividly”. Despite the personal emotional connection, the 47 year-old didn’t hesitate in accepting the offer. “It wasn’t really one I had to think about very much. Peter (Bowker, creator) is a fantastic writer who I worked with in the late 90’s and I’d always wanted to...

CCTV issued after bag theft on train – Edinburgh/Morpeth/Leeds

Do you recognise this man? British Transport Police (BTP) officers would like to speak to him after an item of luggage was stolen from a train. The incident happened on the 9pm East Coast trains service from Edinburgh Waverley to Leeds on Wednesday, 14 May. The victim, a 21-year-old-woman, boarded the train at Edinburgh and put her bag in the luggage area. PC Wayne Brown of BTP Newcastle said: “At around 11.15pm, the woman checked on her bag before leaving the service at Leeds and found it was gone. “We believe it was taken by a man who got off the train at Morpeth.” The stolen luggage was square, dark green and had a decorative gold padlock on the front. PC Brown added: “The contents of the bag are valued at around £600 and included several items of jewellery in a smaller orange bag. “During the course of our investigation into this incident we made checks at all stations on the route to see if the bag had been handed in, but it is still missing. “We believe the man in the pictures can help us with our enquiries and I would urge anyone who recognises him to contact us.” Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference PSUB/B2 of 13/06/2014. Words With Lesley Manville

With an Olivier award under her belt and a BAFTA nomination to her name, Lesley Manville is used to performing both on stage and screen. Now, the celebrated actress is incorporating both artistic mediums as her performance of Ibsen’s Ghosts is transferred onto the big screen for one night only, bringing the theatre experience into other auditoriums.  From her heart wrenching performance as the alcoholic and lost Mary in Another Year, to her much-anticipated depiction of a pixie in Hollywood fantasy hit Maleficent, Lesley Manville is clearly an actress unafraid of variety. “If you’re going to play pixies, you...
