Find A Player, a new app designed to take the pain out of organising and finding players for sports matches and games, has launched after raising £150,000 via a recent crowdfunding initiative.
The app enables sports team captains to organise their games in one easy process, and links up people looking for a sports game to join with local sports events in need of bodies.
Find A Player allows users to create a profile listing the sports they are interested in playing, their day-to-day availability, their skill level, and their maximum distance they’re happy to travel. The app then matches games and events looking for individuals with users that fit their profile. It’s perfect for people new to an area, looking to get into new sport and for those happy to be available as a ringer to play more of the sports they love.
It also makes managing a breeze and replaces the need for sending hundreds of whatsapp or text messages to sort out the team line-up. Managers simply input their game details and add their players, the Find A Player system takes care of the rest. At the touch of a button, a manager can see who’s playing, who’s still to reply and anticipate when they may have a shortfall. If the all too common problem of not having enough players occurs, then they can utilise the app to find that much needed ringer. Managers will be able to access a list of available players (both friends and strangers) in the local area with details of their skill level to rope in as a last minute filler. The app runs a peer to peer rating system, enabling all players in a game to feedback on skill, fitness and reliability, to ensure that the right players are being matched up with the right games.
The app also helps connect people with similar interests for one-off or recurring events, making it a great tool for people looking for a new regular partner for a game of squash or tennis, a new running training pal or a buddy for a plethora of different games and activities. Find A Player has over 140 sports listed on its platform and with over 90,000 venues, approximately 50,000 registered teams and around 15m people regularly participating in sports in the UK every week, whatever sport or game you are in to, the app gives you the tools to find other individuals and teams who share your interests.
The app will initially launch in Scotland, followed quickly by the rest of the UK with the intention of rolling out international versions over the next couple of years.
Founder of Find a Player, Jim Law, said; “Anyone who has ever played a team sport knows the hassle that comes with finding players when someone drops out last minute. Research undertaken during the development stage revealed the two main reasons regular games get abandoned are “lack of players” and “the hassle of organising”. As a result we therefore wanted to build something that provided a better solution to those problems than simply posting desperate pleas on Facebook or sending multiple text messages to everyone in your phone book.
“Find A Player does that, but we also hope it will help more people, play more sport, more often by making it as easy as possible to find a game or a link up with people in your local area who have shared interests.”
So whether you are looking for a way to take the hassle out of organising your sports team, want a way to meet new friends, try something new, or just play more of the sport that you are already in to, Find A Player is an app worth having.
