The David Leslie Super Touring Car Festival event at Knockhill on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th September, supported by Event Scotland and Fife Council, will the iconic Super Touring Championship to Scotland for the first time. These thoroughbred Touring Cars which dominated British motor sport in the 1980’s onwards, as they do to the current day, run a select championship at show case events throughout the UK and their finale is at Knockhill.
What makes this event even more special is that Knockhill will host two races, one of Saturday 10th and one on Sunday 11th for the grid of Touring Cars from the 80s, 90s and 2000’s. Super Tourers such as the will head line the grid, however, the thunderous RS 500 Sierras, and new era 2 litre BTCC cars from 92 onwards will also add to the grid. Making his racing return to Knockhill will be Scotland’s first double British Touring Car Champion, John Cleland in his race winning Vauxhall Vectra amongst a star studded grid. Also making a guest appearance to meet the fans is the 1996 BTCC champion Frank Biela who is flying in especially for the event.
In addition, and headlining the event, a special tribute to a Scottish racing hero, David Leslie, will be made with members of his family present and four of the many cars he raced on show and racing during the weekend. Two of David’s former race cars, a Nissan Primera and a Honda Accord will be racing and the two stunning Le Mans cars, an RML Aston Martin C1 and the Ecurie Ecosse C2 will be on show. Stuart Gray of Knockhill said, “We are delighted to be hosting the Super Tourers for the first time since they raced with us almost 16 years ago. The selection of cars will make each race thrilling as the RS 500s will be mighty, the nimble 2 litre BMWs and a like will be agile and the mighty Super Tourers will have all their technology at their disposal. It will be a magical weekend. We are also delighted to be have our pit lane garages full of iconic race cars on show and being demonstrated too. It will be a must for all fans of Touring Cars over the last 30 years”.
